GPCD: Ninkrossi 2018 (Junior Cyclocross Series Race #2)

Everyone wishes for “real cyclocross” and the weather gods didn’t disappoint at Ninkrossi. The rain started specifically for the junior race at 12:30 and led to some slippery racing. Great work by everyone.

Junior Cyclocross Series Race #1: Corn Cross

Liepold Farms played host to the first race in the JCS at Corn Cross put on by the city of Sandy, OR. The weather was beautiful after years of hot racing or rainy and cold racing.

The corn maze is an essential part of this course, providing a much-needed break from the long climbs and dusty corners.

Junior Cyclocross Age Rule Change

Junior Cyclocross Age Change Rule:

This rule affects all junior racers ages 8-18 so please read carefully.

In their Q2 board meeting, the OBRA Board has passed a time-sensitive racing rule change having to do with rider’s race age.
OBRA Racing rule 2.10 will now read as follows until the end of the 2018/2019 cyclocross season, at which point a reassessment of the rule will be brought to the OBRA Annual Meeting.
We will be sending out new membership stickers to those affected by this change.

2.10 Racing age
A rider’s age on December 31 of the current year.
A Junior rider’s racing age in cyclo-cross is their age on December 31st of the year that the cyclocross season ends. The cyclocross season begins on September 1st of one year and ends on the last day of February of the following year.

This rule change brings our junior riders into alignment with the USA Cycling and UCI age rules for cyclocross. The board saw the need to better support the junior riders in our community as they travel and race across the country, aiming for the National Championships in Kentucky in 2018 and eventually in Tacoma in 2019.

We have created the table below to hopefully help with any confusion.
Juniors Cyclocross Racing Age 9 – 18 are eligible to race OBRA Cyclocross races.

Junior Cyclocross Camp Day 4

Day four was our final day at Junior Cyclocross Camp for 2018. The kids were getting picked up in the early afternoon, so we headed out early into downtown Hood River for an urban shred session.

The kids rode dirt city trails, checked out the skatepark and the dirt jump line, and checkout out the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic Crit course, before heading back to camp.

We had one more mock race and relay race before packing up camp and heading home.

We would like to say a big thanks to Doug and Courteney for opening up their home, Bill from Bend Endurance Academy for just about everything, Steven and Ivy from PDX Devo, and Sophie from Bend for helping all weekend.
