The OBRA Junior Cyclocross Series schedule has been finalized for the 2016 cyclocross season.

Portland Area Junior Cyclocross Clinics starting in August

The PDX DEVO Junior Cycling program will be hosting free junior-only cyclocross clinics start August 20th. These clinics are open to any juniors of any skill level that are interested in learning more about cyclocross.

OBRA Junior Cyclocross Camp – August 13 – 16

All juniors from OBRA and across the Northwest age 13 – 18 are invited to attend the annual junior development camp for cyclocross on August 13 – 16 in Hood River, OR.Presented by the Bend Endurance Academy, this camp is a great way to begin the season by building skills, endurance, knowledge and friendships.

Camp fee is $225, includes all meals, and we’re offering 5 spots at a discounted rate of $100 for juniors who need financial assistance.

OBRA Junior Track Camp

OBRA is hosting a juniors only track camp June 19-20. This camp is open to any junior and will be great for novice and experienced track riders. It will also be a great opportunity to meet other juniors from throughout the state.

What?

  • Alpenrose Velodrome Track Clinic and Racing on Friday
  • OBRA Junior State Omnium Track Championship Race on Saturday
  • Lumberyard Indoor Bike Park skills sesh and pizza party Saturday night (each camper must have a parent or guardian fill out a Lumberyard waiver here)
  • Camping at Alpenrose!
Who?
  • Riders: Any junior rider that has an OBRA license
  • Experience: No previous track experience is needed — that’s why we’re doing this.
  • Coaches: OBRA track coaches, including coaches from many of our junior programs
Why?
  • This trip will challenge you as a cyclist and open your eyes to new riding types you may not have done before.
  • You’ll learn from some great coaches and ride with other kids from OR and WA teams.
  • You’ll get a chance to step outside your comfort zones and push yourselves physically and mentally through a series of awesome adventures.
  • Lots of off-the-bike time with other juniors to socialize and have fun
Schedule:
  • Camp check-in is from 11:00-12:00 Friday morning
  • Camp ends Saturday at 8:30 PM at the Lumberyard, or 9:00 PM back at Alpenrose
  • Meals provided: Lunch, Dinner Friday; Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Saturday
Costs:
  • The Track Clinic, track bike rental, all race fees, camping, meals, and Lumberyard bike rental costs are all included in for $150.
  • Must have a current annual OBRA license, $10 for juniors.

What to bring:

  • Cycling gear: Clothing, helmet, gloves, sunglasses, cycling shoes and pedals. Bring your track bike if you have one, otherwise rental bikes will be available.
  • Non-cycling clothing: We will have a good amount of off-the-bike time.
  • Camping gear: Tent, sleeping bag and pad, mess kit, towel and toiletries (showers will be available and using them is highly recommended)

OBRA Creates Dedicated Fund

Salem, Ore.- The Oregon Bicycle Racing Association (OBRA) is announcing that they have created a new fund dedicated to junior racing.  They have seeded this fund with $5,000 for the 2015 year and will be looking to industry partners to make an investment in growing juniors in OBRA.

“We are excited to be able to create a dedicated fund for juniors, and to seed the fund with money for 2015,” says Executive Director Kenji Sugahara.  “This is an exciting time for juniors in OBRA and we are looking forward to seeing what our Junior Coordinator Joel Fletcher can create with this new fund.”

OBRA is currently working on revamping the entire junior racing program in partnership with racing adults, juniors and industry partners.  “The community is what is going to make this successful,” says Joel Fletcher.  “We have also launched our website dedicated to junior racing.”
