Series Standings

Series Details

Age Groups

A Junior rider’s racing age in cyclocross is their age on December 31st of the year that the cyclocross season ends. The cyclo-cross season begins on September 1st of one year and ends on the last day of February of the following year.

JCS Categories (Boys and Girls)

    • 9-12 Cat 3/4/5
    • 13-14 Cat 3/4/5
    • 15-16 Cat 3/4/5
    • 17-18 Cat 3/4/5
    • 13-18 Cat 1/2/3 (Elite)

All Upgrades will follow the standards OBRA cyclocross upgrade rules here: http://www.obra.org/upgrade_rules.html

Race Structure and Starts

JCS race will have its own start time with the exclusive use of the racecourse for the JCS races.

Each race will have two individual start times, staggered in one-minute intervals:

            • JR Men Cat 3/4/5 (All ages)
            • JR Women Cat 3/4/5 (All ages)

All races will run for 30 minutes.

Call-ups: After the first race of the series, call-ups will be based on the JCS standings. For races combined with another series (Harvest Cyclocross Series, Cyclocross Crusade), the call-ups will be based on JCS standings and the additional series standings.

Cat 1/2/3 or Elite Juniors, both Men and Women will race at a different time slot for 45 minutes. This longer time slot will enable these junior racers to better train at their skill level and will help prepare them for bigger national-level races.

JCS Individual Competition

JCS will be based on points accumulated throughout the race series. Only the best 4 of the 5 total results will count towards the individual competition.

Points will be awarded in the following order for the first 23 places at each race: 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 20, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2

Riders placing 24th or lower will each receive 1 point.

The top rider in each age category at the end of the series will win a series champion jersey from Castelli. Top 3 riders from each age category will win an individual medal and merchandise.

JCS Team Competition

The JCS Team Competition will track each team’s results for the entire series. The winning team at the end of the series will be awarded the JCS team championship.

Each team must have a minimum of three riders. No upper limit of members. Only the top three finishers will count towards team points for a given race. Teams will be coed. Points can be accrued by Men or Women.

Points will be awarded by your JCS individual age category finish position. Theoretically, teams can have three first-place finishes. For example, first Men 17-18, first Women 15-16, and first Women 10-12 (obviously many other combinations are possible).

The Team competition is the best 4 out of 5 JCS race series (each team can throw out their two lowest race scores).

We discourage adding racers to teams in the second half of the race series (no ringer rule). If you add racers later in the season it will be reviewed by the series promoter. Racers cannot change teams during the calendar year. Once you have joined a team you are only eligible for that team for the remainder of the year. Junior team points do not count towards OBRA BAR.

Team scoring will use a flat point schedule starting at 30. One point increments. 1st = 30 points, 2nd = 29 and so on. 30th and greater will score one point. The points schedule will be equal between Men, Women, and age.

All junior teams must be registered with OBRA. To register a new junior team, click here: industry.obra.org/product/team-dues.

*Team’s with 3 or more Juniors racing the JCS will be eligible for the JCS Team Competition, even if they also have adults on the team. Only the results from the Juniors racing the JCS will be counted towards the JCS Team Competition.

Teams can register at any point in the season (ie any time before the start of the final fifth race of the JCS). However, points will not be back-calculated.

All riders on a team must update their OBRA Account to reflect their proper team name.

Awards and Prizes

JCS Awards party will be held at Hoot ‘n’ Hollar Cross on December 5th. Please stay tuned for more information on this as it becomes available.

Individual and team awards will be presented to the winners.

The JCS Grand Prizes will be drawn using a lottery system at the Awards Party. Riders must be present to win.

        • Each rider that participated in a series event will receive 5 tickets
        • Individual series winners for each age category will receive 10 tickets, 2nd place will receive 9 tickets, etc, down to 10th place
